ICE Agents Sent to Major U.S. Airport under TSA Staffing Shortages
iSpyVNY - March 23, 2026
National — The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has begun sending several hundred Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) personnel to airports across the United States as the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) continues to struggle with widespread staffing shortages linked to the ongoing partial government shutdown.
According to DHS officials, ICE and Homeland Security Investigations officers were dispatched Monday to more than a dozen airports — including major hubs in Atlanta, New York, Newark, Phoenix, Pittsburgh, Cleveland, New Orleans, and Fort Myers — to help manage security lines and passenger flow..
Since the shutdown began on February 14, more than 400 TSA employees have reportedly resigned. President Donald Trump acknowledged Monday that ICE officers retain the authority to make immigration arrests but insisted that enforcement is not the purpose of their airport deployment. “They’re really there to help,” he told reporters.
